VA Healthcare

The VA healthcare system is one of the largest in the country, serving millions of veterans through VA medical centers and community-based outpatient clinics. Enrollment is based on priority groups that consider factors like service-connected disabilities, income, and special circumstances like Purple Heart recipients.

$4,000+ /Month GI Bill

To enroll, apply online at VA.gov, call 1-877-222-8387, or visit your local VA medical center. Most veterans who served in active duty and received an honorable or general discharge are eligible.

Disability Compensation

If you have a service-connected illness or injury, you may qualify for VA disability compensation — a tax-free monthly payment. Ratings range from 0% to 100% based on severity, and higher ratings mean higher payments. You can file a claim online, through a Veterans Service Organization (VSO), or at a VA regional office.

VA Education Benefits

The Post-9/11 GI Bill covers tuition and fees at public institutions, provides a monthly housing allowance, and includes a books and supplies stipend. Benefits can also be transferred to a spouse or dependent children in some cases.

  • Post-9/11 GI Bill: Up to 36 months of education benefits
  • Montgomery GI Bill: Monthly payments for education and training
  • Vocational Rehabilitation (VR&E): Career counseling and training for service-connected disabilities
  • Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA)

VA Home Loans

VA home loans offer significant advantages over conventional mortgages. There is no down payment required, no private mortgage insurance (PMI), and competitive interest rates. The VA guarantees a portion of the loan, which reduces risk for lenders.

Do not overlook lesser-known benefits. The VA also offers burial benefits, caregiver support programs, life insurance, and pension benefits for wartime veterans with limited income. Visit VA.gov or contact a VSO to explore everything available to you.

Caregiver Support

If you care for a veteran with serious injuries, the VA’s Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers may provide a monthly stipend, health insurance, respite care, and mental health counseling. Eligibility has expanded to include veterans from all eras.
