While federal VA benefits get the most attention, state-level programs can add thousands of dollars in value each year. The specific benefits vary by state, but most offer some combination of the following:
Property Tax Exemptions
Most states offer some level of property tax exemption for veterans, and many provide full exemptions for veterans with service-connected disabilities rated at 100%. Some states extend partial exemptions to all veterans regardless of disability status. The savings can be substantial — often $1,000 to $5,000 or more per year.
